Cultivation of a Business Part 1 "Outside Perspective"

I would like to tell you a story about a man named David. He is young chef that is very talented and all his friends and family said he was so go that he should open up a small restaurant. So, he borrowed money from his family and open his restaurant.

He didn't know very much about running a business but he thought it would be easy after all he had worked in restaurants for the last five years. What could be so difficult about something he loved anyway.

So, the restaurant has now been open over 5 years and this is where I meant David. He was sitting in the back corner table of his restaurant head down doing paperwork. He had ask me to come in and see if could help him with his business.

The restaurant was doing OK it had a few regular clientele and it was staying a float. David wanted more and he couldn't understand why he wasn't doing even better. His food was good, everyone seemed to like it and his prices were even more competitive than most restaurants in the area.

We sat drank coffee and talked about how things were going. After talking for a while I assured David him that he was doing a lot of things right and to still be in business after 5 years was really great. We talked more about his sales, food, customers and employees.

When we finished our conversation for the day he thanked me for my time and we schedule a meeting for the same time next week. He said it was really great to be able to just talk to someone about his business that understand business in general. I thanked him for his time and said goodbye.

David like so many other business owners need a outside perspective. They get so bogged down in the everyday work of the business that they have no time to work on the business. Working on your business and not just in your business is key to surviving over a long period of time.

Hiring a business consultant or business coach helps a business owner get a outside perspective on their business, then they can see things with a clearer picture. A business coach can pull the owner out of the mindset of the business, into the mindset again of the "entrepreneur" the person that had the innovation to create the idea in the first place.

When you create a business your are the entrepreneur you are a visionary filled with passion. You are able to think of very thing create that you can to open your new business. Then you get into business and little by little the entrepreneur can slowly fade away getting lost in the everyday operation of the business.

Over the next several months through Davids business I will be showing you how to cultivate your business. Learn more next week with my next appointment with David.

your customers and create a business that works how you want it to work.

as a whole. We help you cultivate each key area—employees, products, sales and
customers—to move in direction you want.
